Purnima has special significance in Hinduism. The calendar in hinduism and in the date of Hindu Panchang varies according to the moon. What is a full moon? It the night when the moon is fully visible. The full moon night comes after every 30 days , it can be said that moon comes once a month. The decreasing and increasing side of the moon is called two types : Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha.


In hinduism , the Purnima tithi is considered a symbol of abundance , prosperity and wholeness. The dates of many Hindi festivals are aligned with Purnima. As per the Hindu lunar calendar, the full moon occurs at least once a month and at most twice a month. It is considered to be an auspicious as a significant religious occasion. On this occasion married Hindu woman worship Goddess Savitri.

  • Fast for the entire day and don’t eat anything.
  • Fasting should begin with the sunrise and stop with the sighting of the Full Moon.
